I tested the /srvd install, and it seems to work. The configuration
files are pretty good. The software is pretty good. The install
scripts are pretty good. It's all pretty good. The system basically
works.
So, I'll send this announcement to linux-announce@mit.edu in one to
two days, unless someone gives me a reason not to.
(Along with sending this to linux-announce, I'll change what
/mit/linux/redhat/current points to, and copy Derek's bootdisk image
to the directory mentioned in the one-sheet.)
(Has anyone tested the PCMCIA install?)

Announcing Linux-Athena 5.2
SIPB and linux-dev are proud to announce the availability of the
Linux-Athena 5.2 distribution.
The spiffy new features of this system include:
- Based on RedHat Linux 5.2, which uses the spiffy thread-safe glibc
(i.e. libc 6) shared library.
- Based on Athena 8.2, which has spiffy security features like krb5
and an ssh client and server.
- New versions of tons of Linux and Athena software.
If you want to use this system, we recommend that you do a fresh new
install of your computer. It may be possible to upgrade a system from
RedHat-Athena 4.2 to RedHat-Athena 5.2, but we do not support this and
we do not recommend it.
The instructions on how to install Linux-Athena 5.2 can be viewed with
the command:
xdvi /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/doc/current/linux-athena.dvi
They can be printed with the command:
dvips /afs/sipb.mit.edu/project/doc/current/linux-athena.dvi
Or, you can go to the SIPB office (W20-575) and pick up a copy of
"Installing RedHat-Athena Linux on MITnet".
If you have any questions about the system, the documentation at
http://web.mit.edu/linux/www may be helpful. Or, you can send email
to linux-help@mit.edu.
Have a nice day,
Sal Valente <svalente@mit.edu>
