I'm comparing the 5.2 comps file on sipb-nfs against the default one.
I'm attempting to build the 'make server' files to build a RH-A 5.2
server, and I'm looking at what Sal's done on sipb-nfs. Besides the
standard stuff (adding the Athena packages and removing 'rootfiles')
I'm trying to figure out what else was done. It looks like the
following:
Removed references to the following packages everwhere except the
'Server' config:
AfterStep <- Still in 'workstation'!
AfterStep-APPS <- ""
exmh
nmh
AnotherLevel
caching-nameserver
lpr <- removed from 'Workstation' only, but it still
gets installed from 'X Window System' and
Networked Workstation.
still exists in MANY components
xmailbox <- still in Mail/WWW/News Tools
xrn <- still in Mail/WWW/News Tools
trn <- ""
tin <- ""
slrn <- ""
elm <- ""
pine <- ""
tetex-xdvi <- still installed from X Window System,
exists elsewhere
tetex* <- Still exists in TeX Formatting
emacs <- Still exists in Emacs components
Changes component toggles:
Mail/WWW/News Tools -> off
File Managers -> off
X multimedia support -> off
Console Multimedia -> off
Dialup Workstation -> off
DNS Name Server -> on
I think we need to discuss what we consider to be the optimum
installed client. Personally, I think we might want to remove the
'workstation/server/custom' choice and just provide a set of default
'custom' specifications -- I think it would be less confusing and less
work in the long run. I also think we should decide what those
specifications are. In particular, I believe we should install the
compiler (C Development) and arguably development libraries and X
Devel.
Basically, what should the standard configuration be?
