4.  Planning for a "cluster" Linux port

Issues:
------

a.  What about 3rd party software (Alex says the only major package
that we don't have for Linux is Frame, not a showstopper)

b.  Support issues for student owned machines of various flavors that
can't run our "cookie-cutter" Linux port (we can continue the current
situation, where SIPB supports students in the dorms running Linux)

c.  Hardware theft 

d.  Intel hardware offered by the vendors changes on such a short
timescale - we might need to change our internal processes in order to
be more flexible.  We'd also need to at least standardize on one
reputable vendor.

e.  We can't support people who want to run BOTH Windows and Linux
(same answer as b above)

Possible strategy: Hold out some renewal money in FY2000 so that we
can roll out a small number of Linux cluster machines during IAP2001
(either in a small cluster or as part of W20) Perhaps about 10 such
machines to replace a small number of SPARC4's
