installing onto a laptop

so I tried a rh5.1 athena install on my laptop (a thinkpad 755c)
I selected the default RH install,
and added some athena packages
(though it did give the options of a full athena install)
part way through the instalation, it threw up the error
"RPM installation of apmd failed: execution of script failed"
in vt4 is said:
"<5>eth0: infinate loop in interrupt, status 2011"
everything else looked normal. I clicked okay
previous installs have hung at the dev rpm, but this one seemed to
have managed okay.
at the initscripts-3.67-1 rpm, I got the same error as the apmd
rpm. there were no new messages on any of the VT
got the same error installing sendmail-8.8.7-17
aside from that it seems to have installed okay.
