Hi,

Under the beta 4.2 release, I notice that certain hosts that telnet to my
machine seem to show up as "localhost" even though they aren't. For
example, right now I have this output from "w":

[hesed]:~> w
 12:16am up 1 day, 4:41, 8 users, load average: 0.09, 0.09, 0.02
USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
flau ttyp0 18.240.0.35 6:09pm 2.00s 2.46s 1.50s -tcsh
root ttyp1 fooworld.mit.edu 10:40pm 36:33 0.40s 0.02s tail -f
/var/lo
efoo ttyp2 FOOWORLD 11:14pm 0.00s 12.46s 0.07s w
acorn ttyp4 gateway.applix.c 12:11am 26.00s 0.27s 0.14s telnet
localhos
dnchen ttyp5 SONIK 8:35pm 31:13 2.09s 1.61s -tcsh
lstse ttyp7 18.245.0.247 9:10pm 5:36 2.36s 1.86s -tcsh
ericding ttyp8 localhost 12:12am 26.00s 5.67s 4.80s emacs -f
my-mh-
janet ttypa KIX 7:18pm 3:35 2.38s 1.62s -tcsh

but "who" reports:

[hesed]:~> who
flau ttyp0 Nov 17 18:09 (localhost)
root ttyp1 Nov 17 22:40 (fooworld.mit.edu)
efoo ttyp2 Nov 17 23:14 (FOOWORLD.MIT.EDU)
acorn ttyp4 Nov 18 00:11 (gateway.applix.c)
dnchen ttyp5 Nov 17 20:35 (SONIK.MIT.EDU)
lstse ttyp7 Nov 17 21:10 (localhost)
ericding ttyp8 Nov 18 00:12 (localhost)
janet ttypa Nov 17 19:18 (KIX.MIT.EDU)
[hesed]:~>

note the (localhost) entries for several users that are definitely not
coming from hesed itself. Has anyone else noticed this and thought of an
explanation? I'm not sure why this happens yet -- I wonder if it's because
athena login doesn't update some /var/log file properly or something, but I
have no definite idea. It's definitely not a killer issue though, but would
be kind of nice to have working correctly.
