We're just about ready with the RedHat-Athena LInux 4.2 release, and
we're looking for beta testers. This release will buy you:

	* Linux 2.0.30 -- Fixes a number of problems including the
oversize ping problem and SYN flooding attacks.
	* Many security fixes in the Linux and Athena utilities
	* Better distinctions between client and server configurations
	* More installation configuration choices, including using
		an SRVD configuration for /usr/athena
	* Updated AFS to 3.3a (the old release was AFS 3.3)
	* Updated kerberos (using the most recent CNS release)
	* Updated emacs to 19.34
	* partially-networked hosts should deal better
	* better integration of athena with PPP and PCMCIA networking

To install RedHat-Athena 4.2, you will need to use the new images:
	athena% attach linux
	athena% cd /mit/linux/devel/redhat/install/bootdisks/images
	athena% dd if=boot.img of=<floppy> bs=18k conv=sync

If you're using PCMCIA, you'll also need the supp.img disk from the
same directory.

Follow the instructions for installing Linux from the "Installing
RedHat-Athena Linux on MITNet" document. Please send any questions,
comments, problems, concerns, etc. to linux-dev@mit.edu. Also, if you
do try this installation, please let linux-dev know so we can keep a
count on the users.

Thanks!!!!

NOTE: Updgrading a machine from RedHat-Athena 4.0 to RedHat-Athena 4.2
has _NOT_ been tested. It may work, it may not work. We don't know.
If you try it, please be warned that your Athena configurations may be
lost. However, if you do try it, please let us know how it worked (or
didn't work, as the case may be ;)
