At the time, that would have been exceedingly painful; the at1700 driver
granola was using tended to freeze every few minutes. AFS timeouts would
have been frequent. As it was, installing into AFS hurt too.

Agreed, now that it's been tested somewhat on both linux and netbsd/i386.
