Okay, I installed TAMU.99pl12+ on /dev/sda4, overwriting the DOS
partition. It seems to work, mostly, although the kernel needs to be
rebuilt, and I need to go over this errata sheet, and the X server has
the same problem it has on quiche with screwing up the console mode.
(I also need to configure the mouse, but that's easy.) I'll install
the sources soon.
At any rate, a couple of notes for the people working on sda2, the old
Linux installation:
(1) It is currently a standard system, recently installed
off what's probably the best release out there at the
moment. It would probably make a good testing platform
for packages from /dev/sda2.
(2) I'm about to change /etc/fstab on /dev/sda2 to mount
/dev/sda4 as an ext2 file system on /mnt/tamu. /dev/sda4
mounts /dev/sda2 as /mnt/sls, and /dev/sda3 as
/mnt/second.
(3) You can boot the TAMU installation by rebooting, holding
down Ctrl while the BIOS scans for SCSI disks to get the
LILO prompt, and typing 'msdos'. This should probably be
changed, but I don't know how to configure LILO. Also a
little bit suspect is that when you type 'msdos', it fires
up what looks like another copy of LILO and loads the
kernel on /dev/sda4. Whatever.
