Meeting Minutes or 7/28/97
daemon@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (Derek Atkins)
Wed Aug 6 11:34:42 1997
To: linux-dev@MIT.EDU
From: Derek Atkins <warlord@MIT.EDU>
Date: 06 Aug 1997 11:34:17 -0400
In attendence: <Umm, I neglected to take attendence -- Oops>
We went over the minutes from the last meeting and talked about
what work had (or, more likely, hadn't) been done.
RPM Space:
* amu talked about the classification of programs. He sent out
some mail about his new package setup. The dependencies are more
logical in the new setup (separating client from server, for
example).
* He used the current SRVD, so new things might not be added.
However, he thinks that everything in the current srvd is in
_some_ package.
PAM:
* warlord still needs to do PAM. The plan is to create three
PAM modules (krb4, AFS, and Athena) -- the first two are done
(thanks to shadow@andrew.cmu.edu), the third is in the works,
loosely based on AL and Roger Hu's Athena-Pam module.
* Plans to test telnet and figure out how to configure PAM in an
RPM.
Inetd:
* amu got the Athena inetd, access_on, and access_off working.
Install:
* warlord still needs to port the 4.2 install program and
remove the "Everything" choice.
Development Tree:
* warlord created /mit/linux/devel as a place to store the
development sources and binaries for the installation system.
Quazi-Connected files
* jmmikkel reported that connecting Athena to PPP or PCMCIA
would require a lot of work and probably could not be easily
automated. She had to touch a lot of files to try to get
it working.
* In the meantime, would should tell people to boot to
different runlevels for Athena vs. non-Athena systems. Make
sure Athena doesn't use runlevel 2, so RL-2 can be the
non-networked runlevel, and RL-3 can be the networked runlevel.
* No close look was taken at PCMCIA; that may be easier to
use.
Install Server:
* warlord will setup a RH 4.2 install server and download the
RedHat 4.2 RPMS. We need to check if there is enough space on
small-gods to host the install site.
8.1 dropins
* amu will look at dropping in code from Athena 8.1. Code he
plans to look at:
- Emacs 19.34
- Zephyr
- Kerberos
- Others?
"Updating" machines:
* djib is going to look at modifying rc.athena to notify users
where a new update is ready. rc.athena should call
reactivate, and reactivate should do the update checking.
perhaps it should perform the update on "public" machines?
* There was also talk about adding a gmotd out of AFS
* Similarly, we talked about modifying xlogin to get a
Linux-specific motd message (in addition to the Athena motd
message)
TASKLIST:
PAM (warlord)
Install Program (warlord)
RH 4.2 Install (warlord)
8.1 dropins (amu)
rc.athena/reactivate/update (djib)
Next meeting should be Monday, August 18
