Well, I looked at cutter's syslogs (it is running the supposedly
patched kernel) and discovered that it logged a few messages related
to the debugging printk's I'd added:

Also, jmorzins says he noticed some afs cache corruption on cutter
a few days ago. (Some files in the gnu locker were segfaulting sporadically).
