A patch was recently installed to patch a bug in netscape with newer
versions of Linux (specifically, libc-5.3.x and up, I
believe). However, this has the side effect of breaking old
installations of Linux which have libc-5.0.9. I suspect you are using
a Slackware installation?
You should be able to run netscape by specifying an old version, e.g.:
add infoagents
netscape-3.0 &
The other solution(s) would be to upgrade your computer to the
recommended RedHat installation (or just upgrade libc and ld.so). The
Linux Development group is aware of this problem but has not decided
whether to add logic to detect old versions of libc which do not need
the patch. It has generally not been making an effort to support older
installations of Linux such as Slackware. I've sent a copy of this
letter to the cwis and Linux people.
If any change is made, it will probably be announced to the
linux-announce mailing list. To add yourself, run:
blanche linux-announce -a jarvis
I will leave your question in the queue for the moment. If you have
any questions or comments, use the "send" command at the olc>
prompt. Thanks for using OLC!
