It seems to work, but it also prints
out the font path when starting.  The output of the egrep
line should probable be redirected to /dev/null.

There are enough old linux1 machines out there
that we're trying to break as few things as possible
for them.  However, at the same time, no new support
is being added.  Hopefully we can fully desupport
it at some point, but there are still people
running old releases who don't have a reason
to upgrade and have good reasons not to (like just
wanting to get their theses done so they can graduate ;).
