Yes, this is normal behavior.. It is left in as history from when
homedirs where NFS mountpoints. It is assumed that you have at least
a .cshrc in your homedir, and if you don't Login things it's a turd
from a failed NFS unmount. Basically it tries to remove your homedir
via rmdir(). If it succeeds, it concluded it was a turd. If it
fails, it assumes you have a local homedir.
So, keep something in your homedir, like a .cshrc or .bashrc file!

/mit/sipb-athena/src/login/Linux. I do not believe it has support for
shadow passwords. However, in the future we'd like to use PAM for
Athena login support... Once that happens we wont replace RedHat's
login anymore.
