This pertains more to the ATHENA portion of XFREE than XFREE in general.

REPORT:
1) startx does not work properly. Once I execute startx, a gray
background appears for a moment, disappears, and the console
appears again.
2) Typing "init 5" causes the ATHENA login screen to appear, but the
keyboard does not work properly. Any keystroke appears to
restart the Xserver. Mouse works properly and menus can be
selected and manipulated.
3) Typing "xinit" works properly. At least two resolutions work
(640x480 and 1024x768 at 8 bit color work fine).
I have received some help from Pat Mccormick, but we would like your input
on the problem.
