I have noticed an increase in the amount of mail that is bounced to
postmaster@mit.edu from linux machines because of 'user unknown' errors, ie
the person sending mail is not in /etc/passwd when they send mail.
Although the postmasters have not complained about this, it might be nice if
the bug causing this state be tracked down so 1) people's personal mail stop
going to postmaster and 2) it is unclear whether the mail is delivered to
anyone (besides postmaster).
If someone wants to work on this, I am sure postmaster would provide contact
information for people who's machines have had this problem.
