Strange assertions from strip? (Slackware 3.0.0, I think)

I ran this command on cutter-john:

> strip --strip-debug -N ../COMMON/crypt_conn.o -N ../COMMON/fcrypt.o -N fc_cbc_encrypt -N fc_ecb_encrypt -N rxkad_DecryptPacket -N rxkad_EncryptPacket libafs.o.2.0.0-nommap

And it gave me this output:

bfd assertion fail /opt/release/pub/bin/binutils/bfd/elfcode.h:2825
bfd assertion fail /opt/release/pub/bin/binutils/bfd/elfcode.h:2825
bfd assertion fail /opt/release/pub/bin/binutils/bfd/elfcode.h:2825
bfd assertion fail /opt/release/pub/bin/binutils/bfd/elfcode.h:2825

Is my module still ok? What does this mean? This was done on
cutter-john, which is running Slackware 3.0 (I think). It is ELF.
Can I safely ignore these messages, or is something insidious going
on?
