I've set the default X resolution on cutter-john (the new PC) to
1280x1024 at 8 bpp. Resolution-wise, this is the same as the SGI, and
slightly higher than the Suns. (Bit depth-wise, it's the same as all
but the SGIs.) And, it looks much nicer than 1024x768.
I'd like to see it running at 1152x900 at 32 bpp, however when I
use that bit depth, some of the fonts do not appear properly. This
points to some incompatibility of XFree with this video card; if
someone knows more about X and/or this video card, it'd be nice if they
could look at this.
Also, a number of X compatibility libraries have been installed so that
software works properly. (The right answer is to not dynamically link
against libXpm, however.)
