errr.. why not assume systems are posix, but
leave the old code for non-posix behind?
Neither linux nor NetBSD are fully posix anyway, so
you never know when this assumption will shoot you in the foot.
How about creating #ifdef NOT_POSIX or something and throwing
it in there (nothign is going to define it by default.. I'm pretty sure)...
