From: pacosta@MIT.EDU To: linux-dev@MIT.EDU Date: Wed, 18 Oct 1995 11:12:55 EDT Hi ! I am trying to hook up my PC to Athena. Telnet and finger are working fine, so I guess my connection is OK. The problem I have is that when I run the kinit command, it tells me: Cygnus Support (pmas) Kerberos Initialization for "pacosta" Kinit: Can't send request (send_to_kdc) My host name is "pmas" and my username is (obviously :-)) "pacosta" I've read the Inessential Linux on Athena document, and (I think :-)) followed its instructions, that is: * I installed the kerberos packaget. * I appended the service.add file to the /etc/service file. * I made sure that the /etc/service was world readable. * I rebooted the machine (just in case :-)) * I logged in as pacosta (I have the same UID than in Athena). * I run the kinit command and it gave me the above error message. Now, I couldn't run the "gettime -s kerberos" command because I didn't found it in any package. I know it is in the /etc/athena directory in Athena, but how can I run it before I am logged in (after each reboot as the document says) if I am not logged in ??? Also, I saw that there was a linux-afs kernel. Can you tell me what it does ? In what stage of development is it ? I hope that you can help me. Thank you in advance. Pablo ---O--- Pablo M.
