Dear team members;
It's been a while since we have met or even communicated, but the project
still goes on. I'd like to update you on a few efforts that have been
going on since we last met.
* Mary Ellen, Jean and I have met a number of times and have come up with
drafts of Software Purchaser Guidelines and Software Developer Guidelines.
You can access these drafts from the project web page:
http://web.mit.edu/is/integration/projects/softaccessibility . We would
like feedback on these guidelines that we can incorporate into a final
draft. Please note some of the guidelines have not changed much, as they
seemed well phrased to begin with. They will eventually link to some
illustrations of the guideline being described, but we need to find some
student workers proficient in Photoshop (or other graphics software) who
can assist us in generating the examples. Guidelines that might need a
pictorial example will get one, but not all guidelines will necessitate one.
Please send your feedback on the guidelines by 2/20 to the sw-access email
address. Also, if you know of any student workers who might have some time
in their schedules to work on the examples, please let me know.
* As far as the draft of the IT Accessibility Policy, I have spoken with
Nancy Kelly of the Presidents Office, who feels that the policy and
guidelines should be brought to the Academic Council for their information.
I will be contacting Jim Bruce about that.
* Once we have the policy and guidelines in a final draft form, we can
begin to visit departments to talk about the policy and guidelines, and
answer any questions. It would be helpful to have team members involved in
promoting the policy and guidelines, especially the developers.
Once the final drafts are in place, we can have one more meeting to make
plans for dissemination and tie things up. Please let me know if you have
questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Kathy
