Policy: How to get this into the official MIT policy book?
- Get it on the Academic Council agenda
* KAthy will talk to Helen Samuels about the process they
just went through with the Student Information Policy
* Nina will discuss this with Ann Wolper (Head Librarian)
and perhaps ask her to discuss with Phil Clay
Policy Wording:
- Jim is concerned that we make sure the guidelines are
reasonable and not impossible to comply with. Does software
need to be as easy to use for disabled, for example a blind
person? No. It just needs to be usable!
- Reword policy to say that software that is purchased
needs to be reviewed against the software accessibility
guidelines we will post, and software that is newly
designed should be designed within the guidelines.
- New title: Policy on Information Technology Accessibility
for Persons with Disabilities
* Jean and Kathy will work on rewording the policy
Discussion of existing software access guidelines:
- Consensus in group that the IBM guidelines are the best
and we should work with them. Some discussion of individual
wording. They seem reasonable.
* Mary Ellen will start on Web page of guidelines
* Kathy will write to IBM asking permission to use and
point to their work
* Mary Ellen will check the IBM links
Promotion of policy and guidelines:
We need to discuss this further at the next meeting
* Kathy will arrange an IAP presentation about software
accessibility & perhaps an IT Partners presentation?
Next meeting: October 26, 10:00
