Wolfram Research, Inc. has started shipping the native OS/2
version of Mathematica 2.2.  While the current version of
Mathematica for Microsoft Windows runs under OS/2 in emulation
mode, the new optimized OS/2 version takes full advantage of
OS/2's 32-bit environment and runs significantly faster. 
Mathematica for OS/2 is fully-compatible with the latest release
of OS/2 Warp, Version 3 that IBM recently announced.

The OS/2 version of Mathematica includes a Presentation
Manager interface that features cut-and-paste editing and
command history capabilities.  It will soon include support
for MathLink, Mathematica's inter-application communication
protocol, which will allow OS/2 users to link Mathematica to
other applications via TCP/IP including connecting to the
Mathematica front end for Microsoft Windows.  When MathLink 
support is completed, the Mathematica front end for Windows 
will be made available free-of-charge to customers who wish 
to utilize it.

Mathematica has been fully optimized for the OS/2 32-bit
environment and takes full advantage of the OS/2 preemptive
scheduler and threading.  This results in an increase in speed,
a more efficient handling of memory, and the ability to run more
than one process at a time.

The OS/2 32-bit flat memory gives Mathematica users direct
access to nearly a gigabyte of memory.  Consequently,
Mathematica users will now be able to perform larger, more
complex computations.  Also, Mathematica users will find that
this version runs with less memory than it did, for example,
running under Microsoft Windows.
