The best place to find this sort of information is, of course, in the
sources. However, I should suggest that you look at MacZephyr. This
program is a Zephyr client available for the Mac, and I believe it is
available for ftp from MIT (athena-dist.mit.edu or net-dist.mit.edu; I
forget which).
