A new snapshot of the zephyr source tree is available via ftp at
athena-dist.mit.edu:pub/ATHENA/zephyr/dist/zephyr.src.snap.950103.tar.gz.
This snapshot fixes a number of bugs, portability problems, and
performance problems. At MIT, a single Sparcstation 20 is now able to
easily support the entire campus zephyr load at peak times, although
we use two for improved reliability.
This snapshot also includes client programs with better authentication
support for client->server notices and better authentication and
duplicate checking for incoming server->client notices. The snapshot
also includes server source files (with the extension .auth) with
modifications to do better authentication checking, but these are not
compiled by default, since they prevent old clients from sending
authentic messages.
We are still using the imake approach to portability, so you may have
some difficulty building for platforms which we haven't explicitly
tested. We are planning to switch to using GNU Autoconf as a tool for
portability in order to try to avoid these problems in future
releases.
