Friends --
I had this exact same problem a few months ago and someone in this list
answered it for me. I'll be darned if I can find the information.
A user rebooted his PC and got the following error message:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt: c:\winnt\system32\config\systemCED."
I tried the emergency repair process, but it failed. The only KB
article I could find was 319011. I think last time I deleted the
c:\winnt\system32\config\system file and win2k automatically replaced it
with system.alt. I eventually had to wipe the system anyway, because
the configuration settings were so old, but at least I go the data.
Any help would be appreciated -- this time I promise to document it
properly.
