Hi, Lisa,
In the future, please pay close attention to destination addresses (To:,
CC:, BCC:) of outgoing e-mail that may contain private or confidential
information. The registration numbers you sent to Dave Broderick was CC:'d
to a mailing list of Windows sysadmins (and other peers interested in
Windows support) at MIT, and therefore widely distributed (probably because
you "replied to all"--it happens).
While I have no reason to doubt the integrity of anyone on this particular
list, it is nonetheless dangerous to disseminate information in this way--a
malicious user could effectively use that information prior to Dave and
effectively cause a denial-of-service sort of attack until Dave can prove
to Microsoft that he is, indeed, the legitimate owner of the licenses.
Thanks!
