Hello,
I am pleased to announce that the Windows XP Support Discovery
project completed its work on August 2, 2002. The team has submitted
its recommendations in a report which is posted to the project
notebook at http://web.mit.edu/is/discovery/winxp.
The focus of the team's work was to understand the customer need for
and requirements of supporting Windows XP. The team gathered
information from the MIT community as well as peer institutions and
made recommendations based on their findings. The team is
recommending support of Windows XP as soon as possible with a target
date of Fall 2002. The release effort for Windows XP is underway and
the release team will be testing applications as well as features
identified in the Discovery project. In addition the team makes
recommendations for acquiring site licensing and for discontinuing
support of older versions of Windows.
I would like to thank the project sponsor, Theresa Regan, for her
support of this project. I would also like to thank the Discovery
team leader, Jonathan Hunt, and project team members, Joe Calzaretta,
Larry Egan, Stephen Goldman, Molly Ruggles and Tyrese White for their
work on this project.
