Good day,
In the Fall, 2001, a communication was sent referencing Hardware and
Software to be discontinued in this upcoming fiscal year. In an effort to
insure a high level of quality support for the Macintosh and Windows
platforms, Information Systems, in partnership with our IT Colleagues,
reviewed the vast combinations of hardware and software currently being
supported. Our review recommended discontinuing support for the following
hardware, operating systems and applications on June 30th, 2002.
Since it is now June, we wish to remind people of the "Discontinuing
Support" Announcement and inquire on how your Department, Lab or Center is
progressing with the upgrades? If any assistance is needed, please contact
us and we will pass along requests for assistance to the appropriate
people. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know
(swrt@mit.edu).
Discontinuing Support on June 30th, 2002
Macintosh Computers --- Models prior to G3s* (models prior to those
originally shipped from Apple with a PowerPC G3 processor or better).
Operating Systems ------ MacOS 8.1, MacOS 8.5.x
Dreamweaver ----------- 3.x
Eudora ----------------- 4.0.2 and earlier
FileMaker Pro ----------- 3.x and earlier
Kerberos ---------------- KfM v 2.0.2, KfM v 2.5.1, KfM v 3.0
Microsoft Office ----------MS Office 98 and earlier
Netscape --------------- 4.5 and earlier
TSM / ADSM------------- 3.x and earlier
ZTerm ------------------ All versions
*68K Macintoshes, such as, the Mac IIci, Quadra 700 and Quadra 800, Power

**If this Kerberos version is your Department's current version, please
contact us prior to completing any software uninstalls and/or KfW upgrades.
Note:
These hardware desupport statements are targeted for machines that are used
in a desktop environment to run multiple applications simultaneously, such
as Eudora, Dreamweaver, Netscape and Office. The machines listed above for
desupport can still be useful for web browsing, email and word processing
in some environments.
