Good Afternoon!
The Eudora Release Team is preparing for the release of Eudora 5, with a
planned release date of March 2001. The team is seeking your feedback,
regarding the Eudora Pure Voice feature.
The team is evaluating whether to include Qualcomm's Pure Voice component
in the installer. Pure Voice is a coding technology, developed by
Qualcomm, which allows the user to attach a recorded message to an
email. The technology compresses the incoming voice signal, as well as
reducing the bit rate during pause or silence, resulting in significant
reduction of file size. Qualcomm has analyzed Pure Voice (.qpc) files to
be approximately ten times smaller than comparable .wav or .snd files. The
question remains, however, as to whether the Pure Voice component would
generate problems with mailbox quotas. Additional information pertaining
to Pure Voice is available at http://www.eudora.com/purevoice. Currently,
the component is not included in the MIT installer. Users can download it
from Qualcomm's plug-in's site if they so choose. The team is looking for
information as to how many MIT users are currently using Pure Voice,
whether they find it valuable, and whether they have found that the size of
messages created with Pure Voice has caused problems with regard to mailbox
quotas. Any information you have with regard to these questions would be
helpful.
We would appreciate any feedback you can give us with regard to this
issue. We will review all the feedback, and the team will make some
decisions. Please reply to this e-mail, or send mail to
eudora-release@mit.edu.
