Re: Dreamweaver 4 Product Release Effort
Product Release Effort Planned
--------------------------------------------
Macromedia has begun shipping Dreamweaver 4 as part of its Dreamweaver
4/Fireworks 4 Studio. Although Dreamweaver 4 is not yet available as a
standalone product for business or educational consumers, the Dreamweaver
Product Release Team will begin testing the product for compatibility
within the MIT environment as soon as we receive a demo from Macromedia,
expected by mid-December.
We do not recommend that MIT users upgrade to Dreamweaver 4 until the team
has had a chance to fully evaluate it. The software has much higher system
requirements than previous versions of the product and will not work on
older versions of the Mac OS.
New Features
-------------------
Dreamweaver 4 provides many new features:
-- New "Code View" offers improved interaction between HTML and page layout
views
-- Online code reference provided by O'Reilly Publications
-- JavaScript debugger
-- Stronger ability to manage and track different graphics and other media
assets
An overview of the new product features is available at
<http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/productinfo/newfeatures/>,
with a full feature tour at
<http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/productinfo/features/>.
Testing
----------
We will be soliciting testers within the next few weeks and will send a
separate message with details.
Software Distribution
-----------------------------
We will be examining the terms of our volume license agreement with
Macromedia to determine a distribution strategy for Dreamweaver 4.
