Hi Folks,

You are getting this memo because we believe you can make an important
contribution to the rollout process of NT on the Desktop.

The NT on the Desktop project has multiple goals:
        1. ensure that I/S staff feels NT is supportable.
        2. members of the MIT community feel adequately supported.
        3. break the deadlock that is keeping NT

We acknowledge that much work and discussion has already occurred, bringing
NT to the edge of full support by I/S. Your answers to the questions below
will help bring the process to closure by:
        1. identifying where the information resides,
        2. capturing it in one place,
        3. filling in the plan to get NT supported by July.

We have been asked to supply a preliminary information package by May
8th. Your response by 12:00 noon on May 7th would be greatly appreciated by
Theresa Regan and the Windows NT Desktop team.

Please send your replies to Rob Smyser (smyser@mit.edu) or Brenda Gillingham
(brendakg@mit.edu). We know you're all really busy, and
greatly appreciate your commitment to information sharing!

1. What are your reamining concerns about the impact of NT on
   desktops across the Institute?

2. What would be on your list of specific "Do <this>" and
"Don't Do <that>" about installing or using NT?

3. What needs to delivered along with NT to really integrate
it into effective desktop computing in the office?

4. Are there critical applications you know of that would
prevent you from using NT on the Desktop at this time?

5. What is on your list of Really Useful Tricks to set up NT well?
How would you deal with the issue of accounts and privileges?

6. What publications does I/S need to produce to meet your Support
   requirements?

7. What kind of Training if any do you need on NT?

8. How would you set up or change the rollout process for supporting
this and other commercial software packages at MIT?

9. What should we know that we didn't ask here?

Finally,
10. Would you be willing to meet individually with members of the
team to address your concerns in more detail?
