Hi,

Netscape Communications Corporation today released version 6.0 of
their popular browser, Netscape Communicator. At this time, IS does
not recommend that MIT users download or use this software for
official MIT business.

Currently, Netscape 6 cannot install MIT personal certificates, so
users will be unable to access restricted sites such as NECX, SAPweb,
WebSIS and online benefits information. In addition, Netscape 6 has a
very different look and feel from previous versions of Netscape
browsers, and has changed the way users find basic services, such as
security preferences and the home page button.

Information Systems is working to solve the problem with certificate
installation, and will also begin documenting the many changes in the
new browser. We will keep the user community informed of our progress.

Humanity has an amazing inability to plan. Not too many
generations ago, when our relatives lived by hunting and
gathering, the inability to plan for the next season meant
death. Planners survived. The clueless died. But today,
Homo Sapiens eats at McDonalds - for the moment, planning
and survival are not strongly linked. --David Isenberg
