Greetings,

Microsoft released Windows Me today, the next version of the Windows 9x
series.

At this time, Information Systems recommends not upgrading to the new
operating system. As we continue to test Windows Me in the MIT
environment, we will provide updates to the community.

We will report back on or before October 16, 2000 with more information
regarding support. In the meantime, if you are purchasing new computers,
please attempt to get systems with the currently supported Windows
operating systems: Windows 98, NT 4, or 2000.

While Windows Me is not fully supported by IS at this time, we will provide
best-effort support on getting machines connected to and working with
MITnet. Students in their dorm rooms can receive best-effort support from
their RCC. Faculty and staff can receive best-effort support from the
Computing Helpdesk.

If you have questions on this statement, please contact swrt@mit.edu. For
help in the dorms, please go to http://rcc.mit.edu/. For help elsewhere,
please contact computing-help@mit.edu.

Thanks,
Jonathan Hunt
