Information Systems is pleased to announce full support for Windows 2000
Professional starting today. News, updates and information on how to
obtain Windows 2000 Professional can be found at
<http://web.mit.edu/is/help/win2000/>.
Over the past several months, IS has been working with various members of
the MIT community to test Windows 2000 Professional in the MIT
environment. The testing has gone extremely well and I would like to thank
all those who have participated in the effort.
During the testing, we came across two compatibility problems. ADSM
3.1.0.7 and SAPgui 4.5B are not supported under Windows 2000 by their
vendors. The next versions of the applications are expected to be fully
compatible with Windows 2000.
As a result of the compatibility issues, we are encouraging people to
assess the suite of applications that are critical to their work. Before
deciding to upgrade or purchase a new machine with Windows 2000
Professional, please review testing results

applications will function properly with Windows 2000. If critical
applications are not in the test results, we suggest that before going to
Windows 2000, you test them in a non-production environment. We are
interested in collecting a more comprehensive list of MIT critical
applications for future testing, so please let me know any that we do not
mention.
Our Windows 2000 testing will continue over the next few months and we plan
to have an update by June 30, 2000.
At this time, Information Systems is prohibiting Windows 2000 Domain
Controllers on MITnet. We are continuing to evaluate this issue and hope
to have more information on the support plans in the near future. Please

the latest information.
