Thank you. I am a bit wary of Win2K since an earlier experience like this
resulted in Win2K changing the NTFS on the drives. If a miracle doesn't
happen by tomorrow, I'll probably try Win2K Recovery Console or stick a new
drive in the box and install a fresh NT4 Server. The only problem with a
fresh install that is all the service packs, etc. that need to be applied
before I get something that runs. As I recall, I have to get it up to SP4
or so before jumping to SP6 (it's been a while and I was hoping to never
need that knowledge again).
I may also try downloading their $49 NTFS under W98 product that apparently
has both NTFS file visibility and CHKDSK.
I think it is time to talk with someone soon about life after NT4. Is it
your group that deals with W2K domain controller issues? If so, I'll
follow up in late Jan.
Paul Hill pointed me to EDRcommander. It looks like the perfect tool for
the situation. Unfortunately it is a bit pricey for a one shot disaster and
it doesn't look like it can be downloaded anyway. Hence the search for a
miracle. Next time I think I will try to schedule disasters when it is not
a holiday week.
