Folks,
recently I did some browsing around the MIT home page, looking for the
"official" palces where we expect the user community to find out about
Windows 95. The idea was that we need to, at a minimum, replicate these
entry points for Windows NT.
Let me list the places I found below. If you can think of others that
are not here, let us know.
One note about the win95 locker -- we can expect that the precise list of
documents within the matching NT locker won't be the same as with win95
(indeed, there will be more), but the idea of a single locker holding most
of the documents is the same.
Please review this list and tell us what needs to be changed or added.
Thanks!
Rob
- - - - - - - - The Win95 points of presence...
1.) http://www-mcc.mit.edu/Pages/Software_PL.html
This page does not now list "Windows NT Workstation 4.0".
2.) http://web.mit.edu/desktop/pc97q4.html
Desktop products has platform recommendations at this location. The text
describes how windows 3.11 is the OS to use. Needs appropriate text about
how it's ok to use NT except for a few administrative applications.
3.) http://web.mit.edu/cwis/computing.html#software
This section needs to add "Windows NT" at the bottom, under Windows 95. Or
should it be above Windows 95?
4.) http://web.mit.edu/is/help/tether/
Need to add Tether for Windows NT 4 to the contents. (Also need to write
that doc, naturlich)
5.) http://web.mit.edu/is/pubs/ns-48/
This is tether for 95; need a doc # and some content for a Tether for NT 4 doc.
6.) http://web.mit.edu/win95/
This is the locker location for the win95 docs. Those docs now include:
- home page
- eudora on 95
- kerberos on 95 (largely superseded by recent mink.html doc)
- upgrading (checklist of decision factors)
- hardware (system config requirements)
- software (software version compatibility)
- mitnet and win95
- choosing a network stack (currently lanwp vs mstcpip)
- tether
There will be a longer list of docs for NT, based on the survey results and
issues around security and so on. I'm making a message about the docs
deliverables which will follow in a day or two. But if you have ideas now
that weren't in the survey under the publications question, by all meands
let me know.
