I'd bet that it is an issue of supply.  Veggie burger patties are mainly
produced by smaller "health food" companies, while there is a worldwide,
thousand-year-old, profit-driven, government-subsidized (in the US)
industry for supplying cheap beef patties to restaurants.

I wonder where BK got their patties?
