Re the recent thread -
remember that patience is a virtue! senior year i was the only veg among 7
people in my suite; i was teased for my vegetarianism (as friends will do) but
now 4 of the 7 are veg, and another is nearly so. :) it may take a couple
years, but how you live does make an impression on those around you, even after
you no longer see them every day (i see these guys a couple times a year now;
they didnt become veg till after graduation). people have grown up being
taught that there's nothing wierd about consuming corpse pieces, or butchering
sentient creatures, or dying of cancer/heart attack at the age of 50. it takes
awhile to reverse those ideas. some people (especially young people) can see
the benefits of vegetarianism in one flash of brilliance :) and go "cold
turkey" if you will, but with most people it can take time and they have to
come to the decision on their own, without pressure, so don't expect people to
see the rational of your way of life and instantly give up life-long habits
(even if those habits *are* senseless :)
