From: elsiedee@MIT.EDU To: veg-thistle@MIT.EDU Cc: vsg-officers@MIT.EDU, vsg-action@MIT.EDU Date: Fri, 01 Mar 1996 11:55:22 EST Hi all, This is a list created specifically for the Thistle issue on veg*ism. (I also cc'ed it to vsg-officers and vsg-action.) Here is an update of what stories are planned and what you have agreed to write. Please email me if you have any questions or need any leads. First drafts should be emailed to me by MARCH 9 (a week from Saturday). These can be rough if need be. FINAL DRAFTS DUE MARCH 13. Things to consider: ------------------- -be thinking of GRAPHICS or ILLUSTRATIONS that would work well with your piece -scan the list of topics and see if you can think of any glaring omissions, for instance: -**would someone like to make a list of nutrients that are commonly (and incorrectly) thought to be hard to obtain from vegetarian sources and where they can be obtained? (e.g. protein = just about anything, iron = leafy green vegetables, etc.) Veg-issue topics: ----------------- The Politics of Nutrition (Laura & Matt) Factory Farming (Nedda A.) Meat and the Environment (Aaron) The Great American Meatout (Ed) McLibel Trial Update (Matt) Overview of Scientific Studies Supporting Veg*ism (Laura & Matt) Social Justice and Vegetarianism (Steve Karian) Common Myths about Vegetarianism (Susan) Famous Vegetarians - compilation (Richard) Vegetarian Cookbooks (Nancy?) Resources for Vegetarians - WWW, veg groups (?) Book reviews - _The Jungle_, _Animal Factories_ (April) THANKS TO EVERYONE!!! -Laura
