delicious vegetarian food! EarthWorks Projects, the Boston area
environmental organization,
will hold its Annual Open House Meeting and Party on
Sun. Feb. 25, 5-8:30 PM, at
Harvest Cooperative Supermarket, 449 Cambridge St.,

Bike to Work Week 1996, and forest protection.
Call (617) MA-EARTH or 983-WIND. Free/donations welcome.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

EarthWorks Projects runs the following projects
	- the Urban Orchards Program which plants, maintains,
and teaches people how to care for, fruit and nut trees, bushes, and vines
in the neighborhoods of Boston (JAMAICA PLAIN, ROXBURY,
DORCHESTER, THE SOUTH END, ALLSTON), SOMERVILLE, AND
CAMBRIDGE.
We have over 50 planted sites and a total of 600 woody plants.

	- the EarthWorks TransportAction Campaign, which organized
Bike to Work Week 1994, co-organized BTWW 1995, and is working
with other organizations on Bike to Work Week 1996
(May 11-17, 1996).

	- EarthWorks Forest Action, which is preparing a video on
the cutting, processing, consumption, and disposal of our forests, and
steps we can take to protect remaining forests.

EarthWorks' 3 programs share the common vision of a liveable urban
environment, with people more connected with the land and with
each other. The work is also very practical: Boston-area residents
already enjoy the fresh fruit, berries, and nuts grown right in the
city. Elementary school students take a "field trip" to the mini-
orchard in their own schoolyard, planted and maintained by them
with the help and advice of EarthWorks. And EarthWorks is one of
the organizations responsible for the surge in interest and support
for bicycle use through educating legislators, public officials,
companies, and the general public. Bike to Work Week and the
materials produced have relevance through much of the year, not
just during that week!
