Wow! Was I thrilled to hear this. Applebee's is a
popular restaurant chain in many parts of the country,
kind of like a Houlihan's if you're familiar with that
chain, and there happen to be several Applebee's in the
vicinity of Kansas City, MO where I'll be spending the
holiday season.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Subject: Applebee's interested in Gardenburger

   PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 1995--Wholesome & Hearty Foods
(NASDAQ:WHFI) announced today that Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar has
begun serving the Gardenburger(R) in more than 250 of its locations -- many
in the South.

The meatless burger is available in many locations all across the nation.
Already more than 40 percent of the company's 654 restaurants have chosen
to serve the burger since it became approved as an optional menu item.

The Gardenburger is a tasty and nutritious combination of mushrooms,
brown rice, onions, oats, low-fat cheeses, egg whites, bulgur wheat and
spices.
The 3.4 ounce patty weighs in at a slim 190 calories and 3 grams of fat.

"We're pleased that many Applebee's restaurants are now serving the
Gardenburger," said Charles Monahan, vice president of sales and marketing
for Wholesome and Hearty Foods. "Restaurant guests everywhere are looking
for healthier options in familiar forms and that has been the key to the
Gardenburger's popularity."

Former restaurateur Paul Wenner, founder and CEO of Wholesome and Hearty
Foods, introduced the Gardenburger 10 years ago. Now the meatless trend has
become part of America's dietary culture with more than 150 million
Gardenburgers sold to date, most in the more than 28,000 restaurants,
schools, hospitals and other foodservice operations who serve the burger,
as well as a growing retail business that reaches 9,600 locations.

The Gardenburger is part of a full line of meatless items produced by
Wholesome and Hearty Foods of Portland, to satisfy a broad range of taste,
menu and dietary preferences. Other offerings include GardenSausage(TM),
Gardenburger Mexi(TM), Gardenburger Veggie(TM) and GardenDog(TM).
