So, the story about the beef industry on the news was actually about the 
squabble between ranchers and meat-packers.  The ranchers are being paid less 
and less as the industry becomes larger.   The story didn't point out that 
this is the same pattern affecting many small farmers as factory farms have 
become the overwhelming source of animals for food.  The story mentioned that 
the top 3 meat-packers control 81% of the market.

Ironically, the slant of the story was not that consumers should be paying 
more for meat (as John Robbins writes), but that meat should cost less, based 
on the ranchers' getting paid less. !
