I was wondering if anyone would be interested in forming a group to study
issues surounding deforestation.

What?...

A group like this could meet every few
weeks to discuss research the members do in the interim covering various areas.
The members would bring to the group various interests and focuses
reguarding factors contributing to and resulting from deforestation.

Some of these possible areas are:

	economics (international markets, national debts,
                    monetary funds(IMF, WB), etc...)

industry (metal mining, lumber, cattle, fruit, etc...)

	population,

	health,

	environment (pollution, biodiversity, desertification, etc...)

	transportation,

	agriculture (land use, efficiencies, etc..)

natural resource issues (management, overuse, sustainability)

	government,

	law,

       and even religion and philosophy.

for example: say I was interested in international law, I could investigate
ways certain laws can or can't help defend against deforestation, etc..

The sky's the limits. Whatever anyone wants to look into, as long as we can
learn anything from it.

How?...

The group could meet every three weeks or so and exchange the info and discuss
what members did or found since the last meeting. I was thinking that perhaps
we would compile the info or give presentations to other groups, or work on
lessons for high school students.

The group would not have any real structure other than the interests and the
commitment of its members. I guess I would be in charge of getting the room,
but nothing beyond than and being a contributing member. There will not be room
for the semi-interested. I envisioned a group of multidisciplined, interested
people to come together and learn something which plagues our society and those
of our anscestors.

I also might extend the invitation to BU and Harvard

When?...

Whenever. We will need to agree on some meeting time, but for now, just
e-mail me (goluba) and I will try and get everything compiled. I will be at the
Save meeting tomorrow (7pm, room tba) if you'd like to discuss it.

Let me know what you think

Thanks,
