While my original intention in starting (and naming) this group was for
"internal", "support" type activities, I feel that the outreach we have
been doing has been very successful (each booth draws another 50 or so
to our list). I think it would be neat to have a name that implied that
we are vegetarian and LIKE it - we are not struggling, etc.
(i originally picked "support" b/c it is so nonthreatening, but i think
as time passes & health info increases, people arent as threatened by
vegetarianism)
"veg Students group" has been suggested in the past; each time its brought
up, faculty/staff assume they are not welcome. so that's no good.
"veg Education group" sounds (to me) too much like a missionary thing.
it doesnt encompass our social activities, our internal activities, etc...
so maybe we should just accept a totally new sounding name (different
acronym). it would be fun to have something totally bizarre and funky.
i came up with a bunch of goofy ideas that i will spare you from, but i
am really starting to like one:
Vegamite - Vegetarians at MIT
others included things like TLA or TLC (Tofu Lovers Anonymous or TL
Club), the Anti-Spam Union, TIDE (Tofu is Delightful Eating) - i was
also trying to come up with a nerdy one (like the Logarythms - some math
term) but was unsuccessful. any serious effort though should probably
consider that people might be scanning for some veg club under "V" and
might not find it if our name starts with something else.
