From: elsiedee@MIT.EDU To: vsg-officers@MIT.EDU, vsg-announce@MIT.EDU Date: Tue, 14 Mar 1995 20:44:30 EST As a result of meeting with Tracy Desovich of MIT Medical today, VSG has a sponsor to promote vegetarianism at our booth Monday as a healthier alternative to the Standard American Diet. We have up to $50 that we can spend on food and supplies to attract people to the booth. Some suggestions she had were: -showing people that vegetarian food is not inconvenient to prepare than meat, perhaps buying some items to display like those Middle Eastern (Fantastic Foods?) quick-and-easy meals -having some items out to sample (what could we have here?). I thought maybe hummus or something. Any other ideas? -candy attracts people; if we could come up with a *healthy* alternative to the standard cavity-causing variety then we'd be in business. Maybe healthy cookies would be an option. -lots of cookbooks to display, as well as recipes to hand out to people -something for people to sign that can be displayed, like a big blackboard or a sheet of drop-poster paper with the sig's of people who have pledged to go meatless (this would draw interest from passers-by) She ordered 100 copies of the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine's publication "The Vegetarian Starter Kit", which was expensive (try $80). We can have a few at the booth to show people and then direct them to MIT Medical (E23-203) for other items. That is part of the deal; we are promoting MIT Medical as well as the Great American Meatout. We also have the privilege of using the photocopy machine in the MIT Medical Department (including colored paper), and they have posterboard and markers which we can use. We can use the back office as a space to work if we choose. Sift through your stacks of veg stuff, and if you come across anything which you think would make a good hand-out which can be photocopied (especially things with a health bent), please email. Also, if you have *any* ideas as to what would make a tasty treat to sample out, let me know; also if you have ideas for any healthy, vegetarian food item that would make an attractive display then that would be good. Remember, we have $50 that we can play with. Also, get involved in the booth! Email me with the times you are free Monday. Remember, the people sitting behind the booth will get to sample all they want! We owe Tracy Desovich and MIT Medical a huge thank-you. :) :) :) Laura
