Hi! VSG is planning some big events for the Great American Meat-Out March
20th, which will be posted to vsg-announce within a couple days. But to let
you know a little more about what's behind the Meat-Out itself, I am
posting part of a brochure on it:

"Each year, beginning on March 1st, consumer and animal protection
advocates and other caring Americans in all 50 states arrange festivals and
other colorful events and call on their friends and neighbors to sign the
Meatout Pledge. The signers pledge to "kick the meat habit on March 20th
(first day of spring), at least for the day, and to explore a less violent
diet.

"The intensive "factory farming" practices used today in raising animals
for food have devastating impacts on consumer health, food resources, and
the natural environment. Yet, the meat industry continues to manipulate our
diet through the "basic four food groups" and slick adverstising campaigns.
The purpose of the Great American Meatout is to inform American consumers
of these impacts and promote more balanced and judicious food choices."

The Great American Meatout is coordinated each year by FARM - Farm Animal
Reform Movement, a national public interest organization.
