I hope I don't get scolded for mentioning animal rights again, but
here is an excerpt from the journal Progress in Brain Research. I
feel that it speaks for itself.

"Subjects were two juvenile male rhesus monkeys, Ronnie and Adam.
Ronnie had a long training history in orientation discrimination and
participated in V1 recordings before the present experiment. At the
end ot the IT recording he was killed with an overdose of nembutal
and perfused with buffered formaldehyde. Adam, who was older than
Ronnie at the start of the experiment, received less extensive
training than Ronnie. At the time of writing, Adam is still
participating in experiments."
