Hi Anne,
Yes, I knew that there was a big stink over the use of beef flavoring in the
fries. Thankfully, I believe this matter was settled and that McD's changed
the oil so that they no longer used beef extract. However, I looked on the web
and was only able to find links to the fact that they use a different oil, but
no links confirming that they no longer use beef extract. Anyone know for
sure? I could have sworn I read that such a change came about when the Hindus
and veggies won the lawsuit.

Prior to last year I never bought anything at McD's out of principle, but last
year they started making changes to improve the conditions for animals that
end up at their restaurant. So, I still avoid them and will do so until they
introduce a veggie burger, but it seems less awful to buy there now. McD's
choice to start enforcing minimal animal welfare rules is BIG news. Here are
