Hello everyone!
For those of you who are new to the list, welcome to the MIT Vegetarian
Group! Our first meeting will be a vegetarian potluck dinner next
Thursday, September 11th, at 7pm. The dinner will be held at Veg member
Jay Best's apartment located at 100 Memorial Drive. The main entrance is
on Amherst, and all you need to tell the desk worker is that you're there
for Jay's vegetarian potluck dinner; the apartment is 8-18A.
It would be wonderful if everyone attending could bring a dish, whether it
be an appetizer, side dish, entree, or dessert. However, we all understand
that as many of you are new to MIT, you may not have access to kitchen
facilities where you live or you might just not be comfortable using
them. Perhaps you don't have time to cook, don't feel you have the ability
to cook, or many you're a little short on cash because the COOP robbed you
of all your money and now you can't buy the extra food. Whatever
your reason, don't worry about it! We would love to have you there, with
or without food.
At our recent officers' meeting we discussed many things that are probably
going to come up during the first meeting. Our primary concern at the
moment is addressing the state of MIT Dining and its recent changes in
vegetarian/vegan services. Several of you complained about MIT Dining's
vegetarian selection at the Activities Midway. We plan on arranging a
meeting with Larry Murrill, the director of communications and marketing
for MIT Community Dining, to discuss this. We'll talk more about our
concerns at this meeting, and then at a later date meet with Larry. We
also discussed plans for World Vegetarian Day, fall speakers, and a
vegetarian "Iron Chef"-like event. We're going to need help with
rebuilding our poster space in building 8 as well as with advertising for
all our events, so if you want to get involved there's plenty of opportunity.
I really hope you can make it! Feel free to bring your thoughts, ideas,
concerns, and questions; we're a growing group, and the more input we get
the more we'll get accomplished. Please feel free to email me personally
if you have any questions or comments about the potluck or the group in
general. :-)
See you Thursday,
Roseanna
