Please forward the following message to any departments [e.g. - Philosophy, Biomedical Ethics, Biology, Genetics, Religious Studies, Nursing, Medicine, Law, etc.] or faculty members at your institution, who might wish to make the webcast of the First Canadian National Undergraduate Bioethics Conference available to their students. Please
note that there is only one connection available per university, so please encourage your interested departments and faculty to collaborate in viewing this webcast.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear Professors and Instructors,

The Bioethi'X' Society at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish,
Nova Scotia, Canada will be hosting the First Canadian National
Undergraduate Bioethics Conference, to be held at the Charles V. Keating
Millennium Centre in Antigonish, from February 27th - March 1st, 2003.

I write you because we are providing a unique opportunity for
universities in Canada, the United States and abroad to be involved in
this event, being web broadcast live on Friday, February 28th, and
Saturday, March 1st. A university may have as many interested students
as possible participate 'at a distance' in the conference by connecting
to the webcast and showing it in a classroom or amphitheatre via digital
projector. All of the keynote addresses will be webcast live, and
during the webcasts students participating 'at a distance' may submit
questions via e-mail. Incoming e-mail will be constantly monitored, and
e-mails will be printed and given to the corresponding student
'representative'.

Several universities are participating by sending someone to the
conference as their 'representative', and in return they receive a free
webcast of the conference proceedings. For those of you who do not have
a representative coming to the conference, we have 10 connections
available for other universities who wish to make a token donation to
the conference, in order to receive the webcast. Upon requesting a
webcast of the conference proceedings, a student 'representative' will
be appointed from the host university on behalf of the requesting
university. Therefore, if a university in Canberra, Australia, for example, wishes to participate in the conference via webcast, and has 200 people watching in an amphitheatre, they may submit questions via e-mail, and the appointed representative will present the questions at the conference (which students will watch live).

The webcast will be filtered by 'IP address', so that only those who
have requested the webcast and supplied the required information will be
able to connect. For the technical requirements for the webcast, please
see the following link:
http://www.canadianbioethics.ca/mainpages/webcast.htm

Please consult your technology support group to find out if your
university can meet these technological prerequisites.

For the conference schedule, please see:
http://www.canadianbioethics.ca/mainpages/schedule.htm

If your university is interested in connecting to the webcast, we need
to be notified no later than midnight, Thursday, February 27th, 2003 at
the following e-mail address: info@canadianbioethics.ca

Finally, please note that the conference times on the above schedule
correspond to Atlantic Standard Time. Universities in some timezones
may opt to connect to the morning proceedings [in the evening of their
local time], or the evening [in the morning of their local time],
depending on how late or early the conference proceedings start,
respective to their timezone. A prerecorded webcast of the morning
sessions might be available to link to in the afternoon [Atlantic
Standard Time], but I have been told that they might not be available
until the following day.

jIf you wish to find out more about the conference, the website is
available at http://www.canadianbioethics.ca/

On behalf of the St. F.X.U. BioethiX Society and St. Francis Xavier University, I thank you for considering participation in this event via live webcast. If you require additional information or clarification, you may e-mail me at info@canadianbioethics.ca.

Sincerely,
Josh Leslie
President, St. F.X.U. BioethiX Society
Chair, First Canadian National Undergraduate Bioethics Conference
